Onwards, Upwards into the Past? Classics in the Political Discourse

15-17 Dec, 2022, in Mainz  on the Johannes-Gutenberg University Campus

Populistic politics combined with social media has given rise to new forms of uses of antiquity: Ancient texts and material culture are used to corroborate far-fetched political opinions, misogynism, racism and conspirations theories. This conference wants to bring together specialists from different fields to highlight these contemporary phenomena by providing a historical perspective of former reception of Antiquity in political discourses.

This conference will be streamed on Zoom. Please contact kkost@uni-mainz.de at your earliest convenience for the meeting ID and pass code.

There will be no recorded version available.
