Ancient Studies in Motion - PAST Perspectives for FUTURE Challenges
The past, especially ancient cultures and societies, serves as a distant mirror. The realization that a problem of a past era is no longer the same problem of a later epoch or of today, inevitably causes one to think, establishing space for reflection. Therefore, historicization and contextualization, as we practice them, always contribute to a better understanding our own times.
Our mission is to play a moderating role in the discussion and monitoring of current social and political problems and the development of sustainable visions of the future. The conferences organized through Mainz Ancient Studies are inter and transdisciplinary in nature and have a current relevance thanks to the topics and invited experts. A small group of internationally renowned experts in the field of Ancient Studies and other academic disciplines are invited, as well as public figures in the fields of art, journalism, politics or media.
Mainz Ancient Studies will choose formats that combine exclusivity and potential openness in order to bring the discussed topics to the attention of a broader, interested public. We see it as our duty to open up spaces for discourse and to create a critical public.
